Dead Poet's Society
I highly recommend this movie. I have not watched a good movie that really moved me in a LONG time. I have also not cried while watching a movie in a long time. This movie is especially good because you really connect with the main boys in the film and sympathize with their struggles. The best movies to me are those with really great characterization. I just want to reach out to those guys and help them, i feel like I know them. sigh... Go watch it if you haven't.

TWILIGHT DISCUSSION
Okay, i dedicate this post to twilight fans of the world, especially the girl sitting next to me, studiously taking notes like I good student, JBerrie.
So I thought, god, this twilight fandamonium is crazy and rather annoying. I mean, is this Stephanie Meyers woman even a good writer?? Or are these teenager girls just so entraced by this fictional character that tantilizes their hormones and causes their estrogen to rise? Meyers has done a good job at doing the latter because girls are not in love, but obsessed with Edward Cullen. To me, Twilight seems like a guilty pleasure, like watching movies on Lifetime. (not that I do).
And then I thought, hmmm, this craze has done something else. This may seems to come out of nowhere, but i think its true. JoBro fame is waning because of Twilight. Now girls are in love with EC/Rob Patt instead of the effing Jonas Brothers. I do not hate the JoBros. I just hate that they have such a massive, devoted, fanatical fanbase when they are so completely untalented. Voices suck. Music suck. Songs suck. Nick looks like hes going to pass out whenever I see him. Joe looks like Mr. Bean's son. and Kevin looks like a 40 year old in a young mans body. Their voices sound like they're constipated or trying to fight off a painful stomach ache. I say all this with caution bc my dear sister is an avid fan. But i only try to speak what I feel. Sorry Kels. Do not hate me.
And so hears the new hearthrob/craze of the week: Robb Pattz. I love my british boys. Rob is a good looking guy. But he looks much better in the movie. In really life.... man that guy is such a sleaze, and so weird to boot. His hair is a wild greasy mess. He always has his chin down, looking up as if he thinks he's god's gift to women... like that James Dean look, but it seems like its been permanently stuck that way because he's always doing it. Rod says it looks like he's been punched in the face as a child, I agree. But, the chap doesn't bother me. I mean I hardly remember him as Cedric, who was supposed to be you know...amazing. He was just a smudge in the background, really. Well, JB was hoping some positivity. I tried. Rob Patt loves himself. He probably practices that stare in the mirror everyday trying to perfect it.

House, I hate you, I love you.
OMG I AM SO ANGRY AT HOUSE!! GOD DAMMIT HOUSE, YOU TOOL..
I have never hated House. He has done some pretty awful things in the past, but to me, they all had some justifiable motive or reason. The closest I came to REALLY getting angry at him was when he said "Good thing you failed to become a mother because you suck at it" to Cuddy. But even then, it was somewhat defensible because he was basically stripped of his painkillers and was in intense pain. But anyways, gah
FUCK YOU HOUSE
I despised his treatment of Cuddy in the "empty office" scene. You effing cowardly crass stupid retarded selfish deusche bastard.
But then he makes it up with the whole "desk" thing which at that time was beyond me to believe that this man could have such a capacity to care. Doesn't matter because the gesture was ruined by the last scene.
I really do not know what to think of that scene... I hope it's discussed in the next episode. I'd really like to know the writer's interpretation of it, cause i have 3 of my own and its killing me.
Gah, I just feel so bad for Cuddy. She puts herself out there. but no, house is such a 12 yr old emotionally stunted boy. He panics and does such a low House-thing.
House/Cuddy, such a slow painful burn. I like.

Happy Thanksgiving~!!!!
I am so thankful this year because...
of all the HUDDY that has been on House!!!
Today I watched new House spoiler promos for next week's episode of House... and might I just say.... I am thankful that the writer's continue to do it the "Housian" way. Nothing is linear, cookie cut, or straightforward. It's House!
Oh yeah, and family and friends. Since very few read my blog, I'll actually personally give a shout out to them-- Kelsey, Jordyn, Alyssa, Rod, and my Cal buddies, Alice, Rachelle, and Holly!

TV shows
Man, The Office is NOT funny anymore. WTH writers?! I used to think The Office was the best scripted comedy show. Now, it is at an all time low. I will keep watching though.
30 Rock- I started watching this for some actual laughs, since The Office was failing to deliver. Good show. I can see why Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and the show are wining awards. Humor is a bit goofy, but overall a funny show.
Friday Night Lights- GAHH I want to watch!! should I wait till it premieres on NBC Jan '09? NO, the question is, CAN I wait?? SO HAPPY that S3 is solid like S1 :) ERIC AND TAMI TAYLOR FTW :)
House- KILL 13!!!!! SHE IS THE WEAK LINK. I HATE HERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! K, in all seriousness, obviously S5 is not like S1-3. The tone and structure is a bit different with the addition of the 3 new doctors. They have been exploring the characters a bit more this season, which sounded great on paper, but doesn't turn out great when YOU DON'T CARE about the characters that are being written about. Honestly, I couldn't care about the dull, flat, boring, vapid, bitchy "doctor" that is 13. Writers keep shoving her down our throats. GAH! I think it says a lot about a character when a lot of people want her to DIE! I hope Huntington's takes her away fast. Oh yeah, and Foreman... okay, I never liked him. But I respected him as a DOCTOR. Even though hes extremely stubborn and his standing up to House got annoying sometimes, he was a good doctor. Now, he has been reduced to a wallflower that contributes nothing except "eye rolls" and "eyebrow raises." Same w/ cam and chase- they are pretty much nonexistent characters, which is a shame, because they were much better doctors, had much better chemistry, and were much more interesting characters that you gradually got to know. But the writers made a decision, so what can I do...
On the other hand, House, Wilson, and Cuddy, are still wonderful. Such great characters played by such brilliant actors. House is a brilliant show. Sometimes I feel I am too critical-- that the newbies aren't THAT bad. But that is only bc I love it so much :)
PS HUDDY FTW

GOBAMA!!!
Last weekend was amazing!!! Jessica and I went up to Stanford to visit good ole Alyssa. The commute up there took much longer than we expected, however, because we just missed the bart when we got to the station. So we had to wait another 20 min, then another 20 min between transfers, 40 min for the Cal Train, and 30 minutes for the bus. That's is 2 hours longer than it should have taken. We left at 9:50 and got there at around 2. Oh yeah, because it was raining a lot, we basically couldn't do anything there, but stay in Alyssa's dorm! haha but its cool, it was a fun adventure. Stanford has a really pretty campus and it's nice to walk on flat ground! But everyone knows Cal is a much cooler place, and I know Alyssa feels the same deep down! Hah! Oh yeah, the trip back was also a bit of a disastor, because we were stranded at the Palo Alto station for over 2 hours in the rain!!! hahaha. But anyways, we got back for the Jason Mraz concert.
The concert was AMAZING!!! Jason Mraz is 100 times better live (if that's possible). Omg it was awesome. We were such fangirls, screaming, yelling, spazzing. I bet we annoying the people around us, but who the hell cares!!! If It Kills Me, Beautiful Mess, Live High, Lucky are my favorite songs of his new album!!

-----------------

OMG!!! I am so elated that Obama won! His victory speech was AMAZING. IF you haven't seen it, you MUST. I have never been so inspired by a public figure before and I have never been so optimistic about a politician. It was a well fought fight. Obama ran a brilliant campaign. McCain, sorry to say, is really not what the country needs right now. We do not need an extension of the Bush administration and an economic policy a la Hoover. We have already re-gained legitimacy and favor around the world.
Anyways, what better place to celebrate such a historic victory than at Berkeley!! After Obama's speech, 100s maybe 1000s of people raced out to the streets of Cal celebrating his win. It was THE best night I've ever had here. There was so much euphoria and emotion. HUGE crowds of people running through the streets, cars honking, people chanting in unity, music, dancing, and just ultimate civic pride. I will never forget that night. And I am so happy that I got to experience it at Berkeley.
haha, Alice randomly found this video on Youtube. See if you can spot me!!! (Hint: I'm wearing a white shirt) :)

Break from studying

Pulling an all-nighter to study for my midterm tomorrow!! Super tired, but I'm pulling through with some Full Throttle at hand. Why do I procrastinate so much? I'm always waiting for the night before to do some major studying! Oh well!
Wish me luck ~
PS. House is amazing. I love that show so much. I especially loved the last scene of the episode. Gregory House, abrasive and misanthropic on the outside, vulnerable and needy on the inside. He fears change. Because if everyone moves on, finds happiness, he's left alone, more miserable than ever. Hugh is effing brilliant.
House: "If you're happy, I'm ... "

Prop 4 & 8
Okay, I am very frustrated right now after engaging in a very long political debate with someone.
For me, as a woman, the abortion issue is something I feel VERY strongly about. To deny a woman's right to choice is essentially a reversal of over 50 yrs of women rights. Because when it really comes down to it, I am defined by my sexuality first and foremost. When people first see me, the first judgment they make is that I am a female. Second, I am a minority.
So as a woman, for a man or government to tell me what I cannot do this with MY body is a complete insult and slap in the face.
I know, from birth, I already face obstacles males do not.
No one is for abortion. It is not an easy choice, but it is a woman's choice, regardless or whether anyone feels it is right or wrong.
Prop 8 is another issue, but I am too tired and drained right now to discuss it. -_-
It just infuriates me by how America deems itself the land of freedom, a place for opportunity and equality for all, a progressive, modern society. But yet, we are so far from that truth people. We have never had a woman president like many other leading industrial nations. We are the only industrial democracy without some form of gov. guaranteed universal health care (not that I am necessarily for it). But European democracies have had it since the late 19th century, yet we now in the 21st c is still fighting back and forth over it. blah blah blah etc etc etc.
And to top it all off, our economy sucks, Dow Jones just dropped another 900 points, unemployment is expected to go up 1.5% by just the end of the year, we are in a disaster war, we are a laughingstock to the rest of the world, and we've got McCain and Palin running on a joke platform- and to think people will be voting for them!!

Bored
I'm tired. And I'm bored, which is why I am writing this useless post. I have nothing I feel like writing at this time. Just sitting in my dorm. No new House-related news or spoilers. It's a school night and I am tired/bored/slightly hungry. Nothing exciting.
But I realize, I can't just write about the high's and low's of life. No. That would be deceiving-- deceiving to myself and my loyal audience. You may be surprised, but there are actually moments of mundaness and idleness in my life. Therefore, I will not pretend my life is nothing but non-stop action adventures and dramatic occurrences. No Siree.
Best,
Annika Lee
PS On my way to school, I tried to cross the street at the last second. Midway, my papers flew out of my binder. I scurried to pick them up while blocking traffic and as onlookers from both sides of the road watched me in all my glory.

midterms
I haven't posted in a while, because I've been deep in the midst of midterms. This week I had two: Math and Physics. I had my physics one on Thursday and I stayed up till 4 am studying and got up at 7 am. So I was basically functioning on 3 hrs of sleeping for that test, but it was worth it because I think I did very well. It was essay and MC.
I have an Econ one on Monday, which I'm nervous about. Econ is definately my toughest course, and its really competitive. It's curved by section at 25% As so only about 6 people will get As and I feel everyone in that class is a genius. Especially this one indian guy who always sits in the front and talks a thousand words a minute in a thick indian accent and blurts out every single answer before I even have time to think about the question. No not mohit. HAH!
Overall, berkeley isn't that difficult, its just super competitive. A's are scarce. Sometimes, I'll be sitting in my Econ discussion section and I'll feel like I'm suffocating from the competitive atmosphere. hahaha But hey, I can't complain, its not like I'm pre-med or an engineer, or pre-business...o wait, I am pre-biz NNOOOO !!! lol Can't wait the MacDaddy UGBA 10 (undergrad biz admin 10) next semester.
Lighter news, last nite I went to SF with my Christian friends haha. We went to Giradelli Square. It was amazing. I had a hot fudge sundae and it was heavenly...no pun intended haha
The other people had an ice cream eating contest....that was pretty intense i must say. Then we went to Treasure Island. Oh, it rained for the first time that nite!
PS. No really cute asian boys at Cal... not that I'm looking. But, it would be nice to see some eye candy every once and a while.

Random
I saw Eddie Lo pass by today on my way to class. HAHAHA
He looks so happy. Why is he so goddam emo on xanga then??????
People need to stop pining away in their own self-pity and misery and get over themselves.
I also saw Lester Chen today. I was on my way to the cafeteria and he said hi to me. I didn't even know he acknowledged by existance haha. But it was a rather awkward encounter because neither of us knew what to say. ...
btw, I hate when you are talking to someone and that person's friend pops out of nowhere and there are no introductions and you are forced to 1. awkwardly leave 2. awkwardly stand there like a fool 3. awkwardly introduce yourself.
PS Cafeteria food sucks!!!
same shit over and over and over!!!!!!

America's Financial Crisis
Failed Financial Firms
Bear Sterns (March 08-Fed. bailout and sold to JPM)
Countrywide (June 08- bought out by BoA)
FHLMC aka Freddie Mac (9/7- Fed. Government seizure)
Lehman Brothers (Sept 08-bankruptcy)
Merril Lynch (9/14- bought out by BoA)
AIG (9/16- $85 billion government bailout)
Washington Mutual (9/26- "Largest bank failure in American history")
Oh what a slippery slope America is falling down. Wow, the sub-prime mortgage crisis hit us hard. The 700 billion government bailout is in talks right now. We are talking about about the government buying up $700 billion of mortgage-backed securities to stabilize the market and increase liquidity. HHHMMMMM.... I wonder where that money is gonna come from.................

5.02 "Not Cancer"
New episode of [H]OUSE tonight!!!
Thoughts posted later as always!!
I really liked this episode. I just want to say one thing. I love the new character, Lucas the Private Investigator. In just one episode, you can see the chemistry between him and House and can feel a connection toward the character. ON THE OTHER HAND, the new team, who've been around for a WHOLE SEASON, have yet to show any chemistry or charm. They're boring and I don't find them interesting. The writers can push and push and try to make them sound good on paper, but the end result is always blandness. SUCK IT!! hahaha
Wilson: I have the right to walk away from you, House.
:X
oh yeah, so I went down to the lounge to watch house with some other people, but DAMNIT, so many annoying people in there!!!! First, there are these really LOUD obnoxious Chinese girls playing ping pong and yapping away in Chinese. This guy kindly asks them to quiet down, and she gives him this bitchy face. How Rude! Then this group of about 8 people come in and have some meeting. Then this girl comes in to play the frikin piano. All this whilst trying to watch House!! JESUS PEOPLE HAVE NO RESPECT FOR HOUSE WATCHERS. We deserve to have the room to ourselves, quiet as can be, because HOUSE = GOD. RESPECT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! muahaha ;) Anyways, so we went to a floormates room bc she has a TV. THANK GOD!!!

Heroes
So basically, I watched 12 episodes of Heroes yesterday.... and I am finished. Heroes is great-the interwoven stories, the good acting, etc. But I feel this drama is too plot driven and melodramatic for me... And I felt that the season finale was completely anti-climatic, had too many plot holes, and didn't bring together all pieces of the puzzles together as nicely as I'd hoped. But anyways, Heroes S1 was enjoyable, but I don't think I'll be watching S2. The general consensus seems to be that it sucked balls, and Rod seems to agree.

HOUSE S5 PREMIERE TONIGHT
WOOHOOO
HOUSE EPISODE 1 : "DYING CHANGES EVERYTHING"
THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE WILL BE POSTED SOON!!!!!!
ETA
Just watched the 1st episode of the season. I'll keep this short bc I just posted this entire post that got deleted cuz my wireless disconnected ><
Overall reaction: disappointment.
My main gripe is the new team. I guess I've been in denial. But I have to face the fact that the old team was much better, and I find it hard to believe the new team will get much better, but I'm going to be optimistic. The new team is so disconnected; they have no natural chemistry; I couldn't care less about any of them, especially 13. I dislike how the writer's keep pushing 13. With the whole Huntington's revelation, I have read the character will be more developed. Ugh. I can't stand her. The whole thing comes off forced and trite. I miss Cam, Chase and Foreman. Even though Cam and Foreman annoyed be a lot at times, they always felt "right" together.
Nevertheless, I watch the show for House/Wilson/Cuddy. Lots of House/Wilson angst. The last scene was was brutally honest on Wilson's part and I do feel his emotions are really clouding his judgement. I agree that Wilson has been enabling House, who has really been a destructive force in his life many a times, but that they never were really friends?! Blasphemer!! I really want things to patch up. Hugh says the way which House wins Wilson back is really clever and touching, so I can't wait for that, cause I really miss the witty, sarcastic, mischievous, playful House.
I'm excited for the PI. I feel it'll create a lot of funny scenes btwn him and House and some tension with Cuddy, if u know wat I mean ;)
Overall it was a good ep though not great.
Can't wait for next Tues

Autumn is here
It dropped from 90 F to 60 F in 24 hours.
Crisp air. Crunchy leaves. Cool fog.
Alyssa would really like this weather. The sky is white.
So glad it's not hot anymore.
But a ton of people on our floor have sore throats, including myself. So, I went to bed early last night. Oh man, the first 3 or so hours of sleep last night was soooo trippy. I don't even know if I was awake or not that whole time. I could hear people in my room and in the hall, but I was also dreaming. I was seriously half awake for 3 hrs. Dream and reality was so blurred that I felt I was going crazy. I could hear Holly's voice in the hall, then a few seconds later I dreamt about a cat biting me. But I was like half awake I guess, and I seriously felt the pain of the bite. Crrazzy . Then I got up and started yelling stuff.
Gah.

Just a few things
Boba: oh lord! Boba at Cal is so cheap!! At sweetheart cafe, a regular milk tea is only $1.55! The tapioca balls are a bit smaller, but it's pretty much as good as lollicup. Good Stuff!
GSI: I am in love with my Poli Sci GSI. I've got a crush on him. I know I said he was a deuche bag, but hey, House is a douche, yet I still love him. haha
Anyways, he is this tall, good looking European guy from the Czech Republic. So basically, he's super hot with a chiseled face, SCRUFF, and sharp rectangle glasses. It's like he could be one of the guys in ads modeling eyewear. And he has this wonderful European accent. He's super intelligent and teaches well. Gahh, its hard to concentrate because he is so beautiful. Anyways, enough with this silly fangirl-ness (I just had to get it out of my system). Too bad he's such a strict grader though.
Heat: No, not from my GSI, but from the weather! Gahh, I thought I would be escaping Socal heat when coming up here, but NO!!! It's so hot!!!! None of the buildings have AC, which especially sucks if you are stuck in a lecture with 800 other bodies, or cramped into a tiny room desk to desk for your discussions, and walking up mt. everest hills with the heat beating down on you. Though, soon enough, its gonna get really cold and I'll wish for it to be hot like this. But, at least then I could wear my effin coat!!!!

Holly
I am dedicating this post to my quad/floormate Holly Willa Bartow.
She is definately one of the funniest and coolest people I have ever met. She's a genius. 2360 SAT, turned down Harvard for good ole Cal. She's super hilarious and oh, she loves House! I got her into blogging too. Her roomate Chihiro is also awesome!
Cal Professors: They love the sound of their voice.
Price (Poli Sci 2)- This lecture is so boring that I can't even put a face to the name. Seriously I cannot remember what he looks like. Oh yeah, he has a New York accent (Brooklyn).
Train (Econ 1) - He has the weirdest hair. I dunno if its bedhair or the wind or what. He goes really fast and basically reiterates whats on his lecture slides. There's really seems no point to goin to lecture haha.
Muller (Physics) - This guys voice sounds like the "Inconceivable" guy in Princess Bride. I just really want him to yell INCONCEIVABLE randomly in lecture. haha
Lam (Math 16A) - He is this short little chinese man. He's a funny guy. So far math is easy so its nice.

Cal days
Woah, can't believe it has been a week since I last posted. My roommate told me to go "blog to my .2 viewers"
My DoucheBag GSI:
My Poli Sci 2 GSI- the man that grades all my essays, and midterm and final (which are also essays)- is such a cold evil man. The discussion class was 2 hrs of sauna hot torture. He is a foreigner, from Czech Republic I believe. When I first saw him I thought, hmm this guy is kinda hot. Boy how I was decieved. First he basically tells us not to have high expections for this class because the materical can get very dull, especially since its an intro class. He's such a pretentious guy. Hes like, I studied in Germany, then went to China to study/work , then to Australia, Japan, and Korea. When he was doing roll, he spoke in Korean, Japanese, German, and Russian. Reminded me of a douche version of Threadgill.
Then he was like oh, I'm a very strict grader, so if you are wanting an A from this class, just drop it. I only gave out 10 As out of 55 students last yr, so don't expect an A even if you work very hard. So that guy made me so depressed about Poli Sci. I want to switch sections, which may be impossible because cal is a frikin overpopulated public school with an awful class enrollment schedule. But thats the only thing I don't like about Cal so far.
Creepy Cult Experience:
My floormates and I hit up all that events that provide free food, instead of using meal points haha. But yesterday, all that mooching finally caught up to us. We went to this "community service center" because it said FREE BBQ 6-7 pm on the flyer. Turns out we were the only ones who showed up along with these twin girls. Usu. the events we go to have 100s of ppl, so it was sooooo weiirdd. They made us get in a circle and she talking about how they try to transform their members and help them connect with their spiritual side (its not even a religious group). The way she was talking gave me serious cult vibes. We tried to leave but we felt bad cuz we were the onlyones there!! So after we ate, we couldnt take this creepiness anymore, one of us was like OMG Jessica's lost (other floormate). We jetted and went to this Christian welcome night for free sundaes :)
Freshman 15:
I realized how easy it is to gain the F 15. Earlier this week I've been eating so much: all you can eat meals, 4th meals, 2 dinners. Gah. I have stopped that now. No more. But the good thing is that my classes are really far apart and Berkeley is on a hill, so that involves A LOT of walking.
Partying:
I haven't gone partying bc its pretty lame. Just people getting drunk and playing beer pong. But my roomate Alice does and usually comes back at 2 or something, which Rachelle and I just chill and joke around and do work. Well last night (fri) I came back later than both of them. I was at a sports event organized by this Christian fellowship. I played soccer and dodgeball for 3 hrs. It was really fun. My roomate was like, omg, Annika is out later that me. What have I come to! lol
My roomates:
My roomies are messy. I am their mother. I tell them to clean up. My mom would have a good laugh if she read that. payback haha. I try to keep my little space clean in this cramp sty I call home. It's hard to keep my side of the desk clean. One of my roommates is Rachelle. She is married. She is only 18. Okay, she may not have that piece of paper from the government, but she's practicaly married. She wears a promise ring on her wedding ring finger and talks to her bf till 4 am. I jokingly tell her I will be the force that breaks their "marriage" apart. Oh she also calls be 'heifer' and 'bitch' all the time lol. My other roomie is Alice. She is really messy. She uses me as an apparatus to get things out of narrow cracks and hard to reach places bc I'm skinny and according to her '96 lbs' Good to know I'm useful for something haha. Also, we are all socalers, but they are already using hella in everyday convo. Traitors.
Christians:
Christians at Cal are so nice. Maybe I should convert haha
[H]OUSE
So happy because there are a few House fans on my floor. This guy on my floor, who is also a fan, is gonna get a TV in his room, so he will be my new best friend.
House premieres in 17 dayysssssss SEPT 17th. Itll be on at 8pm instead on 9 tho until next yr because they want House to be the lead in for a new Fox show, since House has so many viewers :) Back in the day AI was House's leadin which got a lot of people into House.
Happy Labor Weekend!!

First entry
I don't know why I am starting this.
Anyways, the past few days have been really busy and exhausting. Lots of shopping. Now I have to pack all that stuff. I seriously hope I have bought everything I need, or else I am going to chew my hand off. You think you've got everything, then when you leave to a different store or get home, you think of something else you have to get. I think I've gone to Bed Bath and FREAKIN Beyond like 5 different times in the past few weeks.
Today's highlight: I bought the Season 4 House DVDs! So excited :) I'm going to watch all the bonus goodies on my way up to Cal (something to look forward too...err jk heh heh)
Also, I dreamed that I met Meryl Streep.
Top 5 MS movies/performances I've seen: Bridges of Madison County, Kramer Vs. Kramer, Adaptation, Sophie's Choice, The Hours.
